Blood [Zero Kiryu Ficlet]

[Name] stared at Zero as he paced around the room, his nimble fingers tugging at his silver hair as he gritted his teeth together. She sat huddled on his bed, trying to make herself as small as possible. What had begun as a routine nightly visit for the young couple turned into something much worse. Zero, who had not had any blood in days, was slowly losing his mind and when he had heard the blood rushing through [Name]’s veins, he had pounced on her.

[Name] didn’t realize, didn’t understand what was going on. Zero, her Zero, was a… vampire? It made no sense; she had no idea that vampires existed up until now and apparently, Zero hadn’t meant to show her that. As soon as he had realized what he was doing, he had leapt away from [Name] as if she had the plague or something else that could kill him.

“Zero,” she said softly after a few more minutes, trying to get up from the bed.

“Don’t come near me!” Zero stated, taking a step away then reaching up to grab at his head once more.

[Name] stopped for a moment before she frowned, getting up once more and heading towards him. Zero felt her approach and immediately began to back away until he ran into the wall. With nowhere left to escape, he glared over at [Name] with his lilac orbs. [Name] ignored him, although the sting from his glare hurt her deep in her heart.

“Zero, please,” she stated, reaching out to touch him.

Zero suddenly had his hand around her wrist and pushed her against the wall, facing away from him. [Name] tensed when she felt Zero’s lips on her neck, the gentle brush of what she once thought was his normal teeth, now that she knew were his fangs. His hot breath fanned across her skin and she shut her eyes, trying to ignore the chills that his actions were sending across her body.

“What do you think this is, [Name]? Some kind of game,” he growled out darkly against her ear.

“No Zero. I just want to know what’s going-“

“What’s going on? Is that what you want? Fine, I’ll tell you ‘what’s going on’. I’ve gone days without drinking blood, without drinking Yuki’s blood, in the hopes that I would feel less guilty about not telling you. But now that I haven’t had any, I attacked you because I couldn’t restrain myself. Is that what you wanted to hear!?” he asked darkly.

He didn’t understand her. What was so hard for her to understand about him attacking her like a monster because he was starving? When [Name] began to shake her head, Zero looked back down at her.

“Let’s just talk about it,” she said softly. She didn’t want to lose Zero, and he didn’t want to lose her, but he knew that he had to in the end.

“I can’t be by your side any longer,” he muttered to her, burying his face in the crook of her neck and taking in her scent. This wouldn’t be the last time; he would see her constantly. But never again would he see her like this. Pulling away, Zero quickly left his room, not giving a [Name] a chance to follow him.

Instead, [Name] stayed braced against the wall, her cheek and palms resting on it was if it were the chest of her lover, looking for some sort of comfort from it. Balling her hands into fists, she sank to the floor and stayed there. [Name] began to think back on how she met Zero; her parents had been murdered and she’d known nothing but blood. Blood brought them together and now, blood was their downfall.
