In And Out [Minato Namikaze Ficlet]

[Name] sat on top of a large rock beside a very familiar stream, her [color] eyes looking down at the water and the fish swimming through it, a bored expression plastered across her face. [Name] was in no mood to have fun or be happy; no, rather, [Name] was in an insanely jealous mood, as she always was when she thought of Kushina Uzumaki, Minato Namikaze’s wife and soon to be mother of his child apparently. The thought sent another wave of jealousy down the girl’s body and she pulled her knees up to her chest to dull the ache.

Minato had been [Name]’s best friend growing up and she had loved him the entire time. Although she knew that his heart would forever and always belong to Kushina. Everyone seemed to believe that the two, as opposite as they were, were made for one another and no one else. [Name] didn’t believe that anyone could be made for just one other person, but Minato was happy with Kushina, so [Name] kept her mouth shut.

Sudden footsteps attracted her attention and she turned to look over her shoulder, her [color] hair shifting around as she did so. When her [color] eyes landed on a familiar blond man, she frowned and turned back to the stream, ignoring the rising tension in her body as the man got closer to her rock. Minato soon came to a stop next to her and leaned beside her feet on the side of the rock, staring out over the stream as well.

The Fourth Hokage was able to clearly feel the tension in the woman’s body and he wondered what had caused it. Here lately, he’d known that [Name] was starting to act differently than she had during their childhood days spent with one another.

“Do you want to talk about it?” Minato asked softly, his blue eyes following a particularly streamlined fish through the water before it disappeared.

“Why would you care?” [Name] muttered, pressing her forehead to her knees.

Minato turned to look at [Name], reaching out and putting a hand on her leg. “I would care because you are my best friend. And that’ what best friends do for one another; we care and we worry. So please tell me what’s bugging you,” Minato said softly, worrying shining in his bright blue eyes.

[Name] lifted her head and gazed into his blue eyes with her own [color] ones. She knew that Minato was worried about her; he had been her best friend all this time and they meant the world to one another. But she was just upset about everything involving him. Emotions waged terrible wars inside of her head; there was jealousy, anger, sadness, bitterness yet all of those negative feelings were only warring against the happiness that she felt for Minato. He was happy and enjoying his life; that was all she’d ever wanted for him, in the end, no matter how jealous she was that Kushina had his heart.

“Tell me,” Minato prompted her once more.

[Name] sighed before shaking her head. “I’m just happy for you is all.” Minato raised an eyebrow. “You’re happy, yet you’re acting this way?”

[Name] looked at him before looking away. “I guess I’m just jealous of everything that you’re getting to share with Kushina,” she muttered.

Minato took those words in before smiling gently, putting his hand on his best friends chin and making her look at him. “Everything I share with Kushina is being shared with you, [Name]. My happiness isn’t only because of Kushina. It’s also because of you, my beautiful best friend who thinks too much for both of our own goods,” he said with a smile.

[Name] smiled softly before sliding down from the rock and wrapping her arms around Minato’s waist, laying her head against his chest. “Thank you Minato,” she said softly. She was beautiful on the outside and inside to Minato; now she only had to become beautiful on the inside for herself.
